We are definitely not blended. Hopefully we are on a step toward it so a step-family we are.

Stepfamily, it's easier to understand.
Which means it's probably going to be politically incorrect in a decade and I'll have to adjust to some other term for it ![]() Blended family makes sense, except it doesn't really do anything to describe the type of blend.

I live in a Step-family.
I grew up in a blended family. I think there is a difference, blended families are two families joinging together (whether its harmonious or not) while stepfamily involves an individual joining a family. Even now that I have had DD, I dont think we are blended as she was born in this relationship not before. |

I like Blended family because to me, blended puts everyone in the same boat. Step for me implies that someone doesn't belong to the normal part of the family

Blanded, because that what we are like, well, how I see us. I refer to us as a stepfamily, because thats the accepted term really. But I like blended because in reality DP and SS are blending with me and BS.

I don't like neither terms...
However we are "technically" a "Blended family" and Centerlink treats us that way so that is the term used for our family.

I like blended, but say stepfamily mostly. My son came up with a brillant name when we first said we were moving in together. But do you think I can remember it for the life of me????

I don't like either term. I would never describe us as a stepfamily OR blended family if I was talking about our family dynamic to anyone outside of it. I guess I have referred to me and the girls as DH's "second family" from time to time... but even that has negative connotations, really. It is an appropriate description when talking about how we are treated by government and government policy and some sectors of society as a whole though.
