Thought it was brilliant. Dh sat and watched it with me. He said its the first 'real' one he's seen.
He did have a problem with the sf saying 'They're my kids now' he kept saying no they're not they are your stepkids.
Yeah Jamels ex was being a bit petty but I assumed that son was being teased too.

Good one Wef....really nice putting a face to your name. Spoke to Max the other night, he was quite entertained that we've come across each other on this forum. He said that he thinks the second part of the series is some of his best work he's ever made.

Andrew's story with his ex and 3 kids is my DP to a tee. He was a broken man when his ex left and took his 3 kids interstate. The only difference to DP and Andrew is that he's got involved with me (I was single, never married, and no children, when we met) and we now have 2 children together. We don't have cultural differences to deal with, but we do have to contend with our very different life experiences before we got together - mine privately educated, university, career, lots of travel - DP, left public school at 16, joined the Navy at 18, became a father at 23 (3 kids), was in a disfunctional marriage for 9 years.

I think Jamal and Andrew's relationship points out some very obvious issues when culture is the main focus.

Anyway, looking forward to next week.

Oh wow Wef that was totally awesome.

It's awesome having a face for you and Mr Weffy now.

Lol I must confess everytime they filmed your house I was looking to see if I could see a declaration of independence hanging somewhere but then clicked that doh, it was probably filmed before Mr Weffy got it.

Good job guys.

wow
the feedback from you guys is great, I'll be copying and pasting the good and bad off to the producers sometime today I hope.

Amgelwinks, most of the time I'd agree with your DH that the skids are skids NOT sf's kids, however, in our case it's very different, my kids have asked to be adopted by my dh, they refer to him as dad and have no contact whatsoever with their natural father.

Jenn pmsl
I really had him going he had NO idea who I was talking about lol
Jamel and Andrew.... both have had a really rough time, her kids were taken from her (i'm guessing it was the whole cultural thing again) and he was refused access to HIS kids for a year as well!
It will be interesting to see if they last through to the next lot in 4 yrs time.

I have to say as much as it was wearing and at times downright intrusive I could NOT have gone through with it if it hadn't been for max and kate. Max is just SUCH a lovely bloke and I fhave to say that DH got HOURS of fun "playing" with Max and his brain lol

Unfortunately for DH he forgot that Max had the last say in WHAT went to air and what didn't PMSL talk about payback! lol

TP D'OH!!!!! lol Just packed it all up actually have the painters coming in monday morning so had to have everything packed ARGH!

I have to agree I heard him say that and went No No No but then later on you in the show it was explained that the kids had no contact with their natural father.

I really liked it. I told DP I was watching it so he watched it as well.

I really felt for the Sikh couple. To have you father and mother preaching multiculturalism and tolerance and then refecting her partner must have really hurt.

Well i watched it last night and have to say i was disappointed. It started well with Andrews’s story - but went down hill fast!

I thought the quality of the material was poor and had to remind myself it was about step families! The focus on multi cultural relationships and Jamal's life was more the focus. Why were her dad and mum such a focus and her performing - what was that all about.

I think people watching it with no experience of SF life would be no closer to understanding it.

Sorry guys but it was slow and boring. It was only interesting to me because one to the members from here was on it.

Wef...I think Max was confused, as he was thinking of a Perth girlfriend. My sister was never a girlfriend, she was a house mate. They had a great share house and are still good mates all these years later.

Sorry this is a little left centre for all those reading this thread. To other readers, Max is the producer of this series and we are old friends. Wef...obviously is the star of the show and we have made a connection through this forum. A small world indeed.

Intrusive...I can only imagine Wef. DP and I were commenting on how brave all 4 families on the series are for being able to put themselves infront of the cameras to tell their story. Not an easy undergoing. You should be very proud of yourself Wef. I do believe it is important for such life stories to be shared, it opens people up for a better understanding and develops compassion.

Yes you are lucky to have worked with Max. His work really reflects his ability to connect with people so they feel comfortable to share their story. He is an amazing soul.

Hope
SBS wanted specifically a multicultural appraoch to the series, I think they concentrated on Andrew and Jamel's story BECAUSE there was SUCH a huge difference in their beliefs etc.
Our family is multicultural, my children are part Maori and being brought up as catholics in an (to put it bluntly) all white household, DH and I are pagans and his kids......well their mother keeps changing her mind lol

I've been told by many people Max included that next week is the big week, in fact he's stated to me he thinks it's some of the best work he's done....keeping in mind that this man has won awards for his doco's!

Jenn I'm SO NOT the star of the show pmsl
but talk about 6 degrees of separation!
