SD10 has a lisp which gets worse if she's excited or stressed. DP and BM have never seen it as an issue. I can tell it bothers SD10 but she's never really asked for help with it.
I recently took BD3 for speech therapy for articulation issues and after half a dozen sessions her speech is much much clearer. At dinner the other night SD10's lisp was really bad, and I asked whether it bothered her. She said YES, all the time! So I asked whether she'd like to see BD's speech therapist and she said YES PLEASE ![]() So she's booked in for Monday after school. ![]() DP thanked me for getting her to agree to attend.... anyone could have seen it was bothering her and she just wanted someone to help.

Fingers crossed it goes well for her and doesn't take too many sessions. We'd like SD13 to go to speech therapy as well for a lisp, but she doesn't want to. Hopefully if she sees SD10 make progress she'll decide to attend as well.

A lisp is horrible when you are going through puberty and all the other social teenage crap. She will be so grateful to you once it is sorted out. It will improve her confidence and she will be a new person.
Good work rhn!

That's great rhn. My bs is partially deaf and even after speech still is unable to articulate some sounds. He is 8 and is starting to realise that he sounds different from everyone else and is a bit self conscious about it.
He always asks about going back to speech but unfortunately there are simply some sounds he can't hear. I can only rave about the difference therapy has made for my BS (different issues I know) and I hope that your SD finds that it helps her as well. |

**UPDATE**
It's been two weeks since the first speech therapy appointment, and the girls have been back with us this weekend. SD10 only did 3 of her speech homework sheets whilst at BM's because "BM likes my lisp, she thinks it's cute". ![]() SD10 saw the speechie again this afternoon with DP and doesn't have to go back, provided she works on all her tasks at home. BM obviously doesn't care about SD's progress, so it will be us doing all the work EOW.

That's such a shame rhn. I had (have a lisp) and did speech therapy at school. One of my favourite books used was a Dr Suess, the alphabet one).
I mostly don't have it now except for when I start talking too quickly and then I become self conscious. Maybe yoou can just concentrate on the exercises when she is with you. Something is better than nothing. Good luck |

Peer pressure to be "normal" will make her do her exercises. You are doing a great thing. Just concentrate on her doing the exercises at your house and let her know that if she want's to improve more that she will have to practice at BM's too.
